Objective: make a mannequin to display an outrageous ceremonial dance suit & mask, un costumbrista, traje de muerte (hand-painted on canvas, circa ????) Match the suit’s authenticity and craft quality. Allow the energy of the suit to hatch.
Strategy: layers of plywood. Get to know the suit, what it wants to do. Dare yourself to look at the mask.
Execution: start with the skull, then the next layer down, then the next, redo, redo some redo’s…. Build it inside the suit because it’s not like you can put the suit on the mannequin.
