Full-length, sliding door mirror. 88″ tall x 54″ wide. Walnut, tinted polyurethane oil.
Besides your reflection, the most beautiful aspect of this piece is its touch. It lures your hands for a rub-down. 86 pieces sculpted to accentuate the psychedelic nature of walnut grain. The handles bulge organically out of the sides like mutations in the design DNA. This idea can lean elegantly against or mount on a wall. But in this case, Portal del Prado was designed to be a sliding door separating a master bedroom and bathroom. Though approximately 250 pounds, this wall-size door drifts like a feather on barn door hardware. A valence made with the same material and design treatment covers the rail for a clean look. To demonstrate its structural quality, notice the photo of the unfinished frame standing erect. There it is with the clamps freshly removed leaning against nothing. Long dowels run inside the full length of each side of the frame.
